Monroe County Democratic Party congratulates new Perry Township Trustee Leon Gordon

Leon Gordon was sworn in as Perry Township Trustee at a ceremony in the Bloomington City Council Chambers on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. Gordon was joined by family, colleagues, and friends. Bloomington City Clerk Nicole Bolden administered the oath of office.

Gordon prevailed in a three-way race for Trustee during a Monroe County Democratic Party caucus on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, called after the passing of longtime Perry Township Trustee Dan Combs. Following a single round of voting, Gordon won the support of a majority of the caucusing precinct chairs and proxies, with 15 votes, followed by Levi Combs with 8 votes and Eric Petry with 3 votes.

Gordon currently serves as a senior family housing specialist with New Hope for Families, diligently supporting families through case management while connecting them with housing and other vital resources. He previously spent five years with the Bloomington Housing Authority, first as resident services coordinator and later as administrative director. 

Gordon holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree from Northwestern University. He moved to Bloomington in 2010 to pursue a doctoral program in learning sciences at Indiana University and is a proud father to four daughters.

Trustee Leon Gordon said, “I’ve been preparing for this role my whole professional career here in Bloomington. I am excited to step into service in Perry Township and vow to lead with compassion, dignity, accountability and grace. Service is my passion, my heart.”

Monroe County Democratic Party Chair Chrissie Geels added, “Dan Combs set a real legacy for service in our community, and I’m confident Leon Gordon will follow in Dan’s footsteps by bringing his wealth of knowledge of supportive services to serve the people of Perry Township.”
