Graham files for Ninth District Congressional Seat
James H. (Jim) Graham officially filed to run in the Democratic Primary for US Representative for the Indiana Ninth District on February 3rd.
Jim grew up on small farms in Martin and Monroe counties in southern Indiana. He and his wife, Cheryl, have been residents of Clark County since 2003. They have one son, David, who lives in Louisville.
Jim studied engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and worked for General Motors, Delco-Remy Division on advanced auto-emissions control systems. He did graduate studies and completed a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1980. After earning his doctoral degree, he taught engineering at Purdue, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and at the J.B. Speed School at the University of Louisville.
“Before deciding to enter this race, I traveled extensively in the eighteen counties that make up the Ninth District, visiting with people in diners, sporting events, festivals and county fairs. The common denominator from all these discussions was the prevalence of concern over ‘pocketbook issues’ by the people I met.”
“People are having to choose between going to the dentist (or doctor) and putting food on the table for their children. Service jobs don’t pay much and a lot of the industry that was once common in this area has downsized or left completely. The Ninth District suffers from benign neglect from our elected political leaders, who mainly seem interested in staying in office.”
Jim’s dad, Raymond Graham, was Monroe County Surveyor for many years and sparked Jim’s interest in service through running for political office. “It took me a while to get here, but I think this is a unique time in our history. Traditional politicians have failed us in a big way. I think it is time for non-traditional politicians, like myself, to step forward and get us out of this mess!”
