Dispatch 8/16/18--What we Need to Know

While Washington is mired in its reality show fallout, an important question remains: What should we know before we appoint someone to the Supreme Court for life? At the very least, we should probably know what he wrote while on the public payroll. Right? Unfortunately, the GOP is arguing that Judge Kavanaugh's work during President George W. Bush's administration aren't relevant to Kavanaugh's appointment. This must be a deal breaker. There are just too many questions. Call the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee today.

Dispatch 7/26/18--Volunteers Needed

While President Trump’s cohort slowly turns one by one, there are serious risks for Hoosiers. We are locked in trade wars, and even if the effects are not yet fully felt, the White House knows these chickens will come home to roost. $12 billion in aide for farmers is both absurd in light of the trade war he started and simply not enough to cover the losses. Indiana exported $38.9 billion worth of goods last year, including soy beans, corn, and pork. Nearly half of all soybeans raised are exported. Our auto industry relies on steel and exporting cars abroad. In other words—these bad trade policies could be catastrophic for Indiana farmers and workers. As candidate Liz Watson has noted, "The first priority in any trade policy must be safeguarding good-paying jobs for American workers." We are the party who will fight for Hoosier families, farmers, and workers. Now, let's get the word out.

Dispatch 7/12/18--High Stakes Court

This is it. From reproductive rights to voting rights, protection for pre-existing conditions, labor protections & rights, and freedom from discrimination—the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court has huge implications. This is not to mention his partisan opinions about investigating presidents, previous obfuscation about his role in the Bush White House, quick disappearing debt for baseball tickets, and millions of yet-to-be-released documents from his stint in government. The bottom line is that this nomination has the potential to undermine decades of progress toward social justice.

Kaisa —

President Trump reversed course and, as usual, left a wake of chaos. Make no mistakethe decision to stop separation of children from their parents was because all of you joined forces with the outcry across the nation. But we are not finished yet. There are conflicting reports about what is happening now at the border, yet it is clear that our government is intent on indefinitely detaining families by fighting its Flores settlement. There are more local events planned to fight the administration's policy. This includes a rally to be held in downtown Indianapolis on June 30th. The Families Belong Together rally will start at 10 a.m. at the Statehouse in Indianapolis
