The campaign to elect Penny Githens to the Indiana House of Representatives in District 60 is pleased to announce that Penny has been endorsed by 314 Action, a national group committed to electing more STEM candidates to office. The 314 Action coalition seeks to bring innovation to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and believes evidence-based reasoning should be the foundation of legislation related to issues like climate change and combating the opioid crisis.
“I am very proud to have been endorsed by 314 Action,” reported Ms. Githens. “Out of the thousands of 2018 state legislature candidates across the country, so far only 47 have been endorsed by 314 Action.” Ms. Githens received this endorsement because of her training as a math and science teacher, her many years of social science research experience, and her dedication to making policy decisions based upon data and facts.
Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action added this, “The assault on science by the Trump Administration has decimated regulations, silenced scientists and threatened research funding, but I am heartened by the scientists and STEM professionals we are endorsing, like Penny. These are the voices of science who will be on the frontlines of the war on facts and reason.”
314 Action is the largest and only resource specifically created for scientists and STEM professionals seeking assistance running for office. 314 Action was founded by members of the STEM community, grassroots supporters and political activists. Formed in July 2016, 314 Action has over 400,000 active members and donors across the United States. 314 Action is concerned that STEM education in the United States is falling further and further behind the rest of the world, that our political leaders continue to deny scientific facts and that Congress fails to fully fund scientific research so we can solve pressing issues.
