Circuit Court Judge, Division 1 Candidate
I have spent eighteen years as a local attorney, formerly with the law firm of Bunger & Robertson, and the last two years as owner of my own firm, Holly Harvey Law, LLC. In the last eighteen years, I have built a reputation as a solid and skilled civil litigator, representing clients in family law, employment, real estate, appellate, and general civil matters. As such, I have learned to know and connect with people at the most challenging times in their lives. These people come from all walks of life and all socioeconomic backgrounds. As a litigator, certified mediator and parenting coordinator, I have honed the skills to listen, communicate, analyze and measure outcomes. Through these experiences, I have mastered the art of seeing both sides of the case. As a frequent substitute judge, or pro tem, for the courts, I have put these skills into actual practice, and have earned the trust of the sitting members of the bench.
My democratic roots took hold in Kokomo, where my father was a UAW skilled tradesman and my mother was a registered nurse. I put down roots in Bloomington after attending Indiana University and IU Maurer School of Law, and I was fortunate enough to build a career here and it is where I am raising my three active sons along with my husband Matt. Like any involved parent, I have spent countless hours volunteering for my sons’ school, in classes, as coach, and as Vice Chair of the St. Charles School Commission. I also relish my role as spectator at St. Charles or Bloomington High School North athletic events or at the Winslow ball diamonds on spring and summer evenings. Monroe County is our home.
I’m also a small business owner, and know firsthand the costs and stresses involved in running my own business—this allows me to authentically identify with those who might require the legal system to protect their life’s work, in both a legally just and economically efficient manner. My life as a Monroe County resident would not be complete without commitment to giving back to the community which gives so much to me, and I’ve been a member of Tri Kappa sorority for eight years, as well as a volunteer attorney for the Monroe County CASA, District 10 Pro Bono, and IU School of Law Protective Order Project since the beginning of my legal career.
My desire to serve the citizens of Monroe County as Judge is threefold:
-Access to Justice: Many citizens involved in civil cases must navigate the system without attorney, because the law does not appoint a public defender. As a Judge of the Monroe Circuit Court, Holly wants to explore new options for self-represented parties and provide the tools and resources which enhance their access to justice.
-Problem Solving Courts: In addition, problem-solving courts already make the Monroe County court a leader in the Indiana state justice system, and Holly wants to explore the possibility of implementing more of these courts to increase both the efficiency and quality of legal process for Monroe County citizens, particularly in family law cases.
-Experience: Due to the nature of the court’s case load, this seat is likely to be a civil court. Over the past eighteen years, my practice has run the gambit from small claims, collections, evictions, divorces, paternity, real estate, personal injury and employment law matters. The Monroe Circuit Court needs experienced, skilled judges, to maintain the integrity and quality of the bench.
My desire to serve the courts and the people of Monroe County in this way stems from a deep care for the Monroe County community and for my profession. My demonstrated leadership in the community and professional organizations combine to provide the skill and integrity necessary to not just serve the public, but serve in a way that will enhance the court process for all of those who are exposed to it.
I have held the following leadership and community positions:
-Monroe County Bar Association, (1997-present; Board of Directors, 2015-present)
-Indiana State Bar Association, (Secretary, 2008; Treasurer, 2013; Board of Governors, various committee appointments)
-American Bar Association (1997-present)
-St. Charles Borromeo School (School Commission, Vice President (2014-Present); Secretary (2012-2014); Assistant Coach, 8th Grade Girls Volleyball and 5th Grade Boys Basketball
-St. Paul Catholic Center (Development Council, 2011-2012)
-Tri Kappa Philanthropic Sorority, 2007-present
-Graduate, Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County, 1998-1999
I am excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of Monroe County. I would appreciate your support in the upcoming election, and I would be happy to discuss my campaign and my experience with you. For More information and upcoming events, see hollyharvey.org
