Jones prepared for job (HT, March 14, 2018)
I’m so happy to see my lifelong friend, Lee Jones, running for Monroe County Commissioner. I don’t believe there is a politician in this county who has the pulse of our community like she does. Her grass roots activism in earlier years helped gain her an understanding of how the average citizen feels about what our county government does.
She’s taken an active role on the plan commission to lessen the effects of development on our environment through thoughtful planning and directing development to areas that already have the infrastructure or where it’s anticipated. That saves us money.
She has been a strong advocate for our justice system, serving on the community corrections board where she has worked to strengthen programs to relieve the pressure on our overcrowded jail. Lots of work still needs to be done.
Lee has always displayed the courage to fight for the things she believes are in the citizens’ interest, even in the face of strong opposition.
Please support Lee Jones for county commissioner.

Jones can be counted on (HT, March 15, 2018)
As a member of the Monroe County Council, I have the privilege of serving alongside fellow council member Lee Jones. As long as I have known Lee, she has been a consistent voice for the people and a champion for the public’s best interest.
For over 30 years, Lee has built an impressive reputation as a trusted public servant and community advocate. She is widely known as a skillful problem solver and consensus builder. Of the many estimable characteristics that Lee brings to public service, perhaps what I admire most is her innate ability to foster strategic relationships and influence positive outcomes across a wide variety of constituencies.
And when it comes to making the tough decisions, Lee Jones can always be counted on to fully examine the issues and listen to all sides before casting her vote. Simply put, Lee is a stalwart of the people she serves.
Lee’s principled leadership style and unrelenting commitment to our community values make her an excellent choice for Monroe County commissioner in 2018. For these reasons, I enthusiastically support Lee Jones for County Commissioner and encourage voters to do the same.
A Candidate of High Standards (HT, April 3, 2018)
Lee Jones is a very conscientious and most competent community leader serving in a variety of roles. My wife and I often heard and learned of Lee’s quality participation as a member of the Monroe County Council.
In an additional and personal instance, I have the pleasure of serving as a junior member of the Monroe County Plan Commission with Ms. Jones. Here, Lee provides quiet but effective mentoring as she demonstrates her own insightful and helpful understanding of the many issues and their complexity.
This is a candidate of the highest standards and an exemplary example of ethical and professional behavior. Obviously, we wholeheartedly support the candidacy of Lee Jones for the Monroe County Board of Commissioners.
Jones is right choice (HT, April 19, 2018)
I’m writing in support of Elizabeth “Lee” Jones for Monroe County commissioner. Serving with her on the county council for six years has shown me she is the right choice for our community.
Monroe County will pursue important projects in the next four years: reducing the size of our jail population and increasing treatment services for inmates and addicts; adopting ordinances to meet development and planning needs; and expanding our convention center into the Monroe County Civic and Conference Center. We need Lee’s commitment to transparent governance and principled leadership.
Lee knows Monroe County residents and listens to their concerns and ideas for our community. For years, people have stopped by her family’s farmer’s market stand for more than vegetables!
Lee knows county government. Her eight years of work on the plan commission have included developing a master plan to protect vulnerable lands and encourage development in suitable areas.
Lee’s six years as council representative on the Community Corrections Board have led her to promote a much-needed plan for improvement — a justice center where all correctional programs and services are gathered under one roof.
Please join me in voting for Lee Jones for Monroe County commissioner.
Jones choice for commissioner (HT, April 19, 2018)
I urge Monroe County voters in the primary to make Democrat Lee Jones their choice for county commissioner, District 1. She is my choice.
Monroe County needs a commissioner with her keen intelligence, diverse experiences, unquestionable integrity and temperament. She has lived in Monroe County since she was a child, putting down roots in the county’s western region. She operates a successful farm business. She appreciates the challenges facing business and the concerns of rural Hoosiers while committed to the health of the environment.
Her service on the county council has deepened her understanding of local government finance and of its functioning. Public safety and land use planning are two critical responsibilities of county government. Thus, her service on the community corrections board and the plan commission will be invaluable because her knowledge in these areas will make her a better steward of county resources.
Lee’s ever respectful manner contributes to moving the group and ultimately our community forward together.
We’re lucky to have a public servant of this caliber willing to serve. Lee is the right choice to help lead county government. Vote Lee Jones to be the Democratic candidate for county commissioner, District 1.
Lee Jones for commissioner (HT: 5/1/18)
Lee Jones for County Commissioner. Lee is a very conscientious and most competent community leader serving in a variety of roles. My wife and I have often heard and learned of Ms. Jones quality participation as a member of the Monroe County Council.
In an additional and personal instance, I have the pleasure of serving as a new member of the county plan commission alongside Lee, and she provides quiet but effective mentoring as she demonstrates her own insightful and helpful understanding of the many issues and their complexity.
This is a candidate of the highest standards and an exemplary example of ethical and professional behavior. Obviously, we wholeheartedly endorse and support the candidacy of Lee Jones for the Monroe County board of commissioners. We urge others to vote for Lee Jones during the early voting dates or on Tuesday, May 8.
Lee Jones will protect county (HT: 5/3/18)
Vote Lee Jones to protect our county.
Lee Jones has spent much of her life contributing to our community. She and her husband, Dale, began farming organically over 30 years ago, and have served as an example of sustainable agriculture. She has supported issues and candidates that have safeguarded land from reckless development, and protected our water supply, Lake Monroe. Serving on the county council, she has carefully overseen multimillion dollar budgets that fund county infrastructure, social services and criminal justice for the benefit of all residents.
As we face greater pressures from growth, Lee will act in the public interest to govern Monroe County for all citizens. I support Lee Jones for county commissioner on May 8.
Now voting against party (HT: 10/9/18)
During this year’s primary election, I voted only for women. That changed with the Republican Party’s blithe support for a Supreme Court nominee despite credible evidence of having committed sexual assault. For me, supporting women has transitioned into voting against the party of Trump, who himself demonstrates male chauvinism on a regular basis.
Are all Republicans sexist? Of course not, but until their representatives stand up against the repeated attacks against women, there should be payback at the ballot box. That can start with our community’s support for Liz Watson, a highly qualified candidate who would serve her constituents with informed, compassionate leadership.
I also hope droves of voters will support Joe Donnelly because his Democratic vote counts in the sharply divided Senate. Hopefully, Monroe County voters also will strongly support Democratic candidates, especially those in contested races. The list of qualified local Democratic candidates running against Republican opponents is long. It includes Penny Githens for state rep,Nicole Browne — a great clerk already, as well as Darcie Fawcett for judge, Lee Jones for Monroe County commissioner and three candidates for Monroe County Council: Shelli Yoder, Ashley Pirani and in District 2 (my favorite candidate), Kate Wiltz.
Vote for Jones (HT: 10/25/18)
I am writing in support of Elizabeth “Lee” Jones for Monroe County commissioner this fall. Every registered voter in the county will have a chance to vote for Lee in early voting or at the polls on Nov. 6.
While I have known her for over a decade, it was a recent experience at a county council meeting that further convinced me that she is the perfect choice for voters in these turbulent and extremely uncivil times. At this particular meeting, a disgruntled ex-official was on an unintelligible and unfortunate tirade during public comments — bullying members of the council, especially Lee, with misinformation, blowhard rhetoric and the made-up conspiracy we’ve come to expect from downtown Washington, D.C.
Through it all, Lee was unflappable with her usual smile. She calmly listened to every word, allowed the speaker to complete his nonsensical speech, and when he persisted in trying to talk over her response as bullies often do, she strongly and firmly held her ground. Having watched this unbelievable occurrence, it reminded me why so many American voters are turning to women, like Lee, with their confidence and votes.
Lee Jones is the real deal. She’ll be a good commissioner.
