Over the past three weeks, I have enjoyed the vibrant discussion with the other candidates seeking to follow Tim Mayer on the City of Bloomington Common Council. The candidate forums and my phone calls to Precinct Committee Chairs reinforced my already strong belief that we are fortunate to have such a strong collection of candidates seeking the At-Large City Council seat and a committed and energized Democratic Party here in Monroe County.
Out of respect to the Democratic Party, and specifically Tim Mayer, the Precinct Committee Chairs, and the other candidates seeking the At-Large seat, I have asked Monroe County Democratic Party Chair Mark Fraley to remove my name from consideration in the August 21, 2017 Caucus.
My decision to withdraw was difficult. I would love the opportunity once again to serve the City of Bloomington on the Bloomington Common Council -- however, I am pursuing an opportunity to serve our community in a different capacity that would demand my full attention. Further, if I were fortunate enough to be selected for both the Council and this opportunity, I would need to leave elected office. To be fair to the party and to the community, I must avoid that potential conflict and avoid prolonging the process to fill the At-Large City Council seat.
I deeply respect our local Democratic Party, the Precinct Committee Chairs, my fellow candidates, and Tim Mayer, and will continue to enthusiastically support Democrats in our community and in our nation.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the MCDP Caucus on August 21st
