I’m voting for Christine Talley Haseman for Judge in Monroe Circuit Court Seat 2 in the 2018 Democratic Primary. Christine is the only candidate in this race with judicial experience. That matters to me — and it should matter to you!

Christine has served as a hearing officer for the Indiana Supreme Court, an honor typically only granted to sitting judges because of the sensitive nature, but Christine was selected as an attorney. Not only is she a former juvenile court referee presiding over children in need of services, juvenile delinquency, paternity, and protective order cases, but she is also a pro bono attorney for Monroe County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

Christine has experience as a deputy prosecutor, public defender, child advocate, family law attorney, family law mediator, attorney in adult protective services cases and has served as a judge pro tempore (that is she fills in for sitting judges) in civil and criminal cases.

Finally, Christine has been endorsed by the Monroe County Democratic Women’s Caucus.

Once you know more about Christine, I am confident you will agree. There is no contest in this race. Learn more at christineforjudge.org

I am writing in regards to the Monroe Circuit Court election for Seat 2, and I ask to please do research before voting. Do not vote for someone because your friend has their yard sign or just because someone spoke nicely about them — being able to befriend well-known Democrats does not indicate that a candidate is best for the job — it just makes them a politician

If you research who is most qualified, experienced, and respected in the area of law this seat will address; who has the support of the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the Black Democratic Caucus, you will find the clear choice is Christine Talley Haseman.

Recently at a gathering, a judicial candidate in another race admitted that Christine is the most qualified candidate in all three races. Christine’s 22-plus years of experience include serving as judge, juvenile referee, deputy prosecutor, public defender, in addition to representing her clients. She has experience in family, civil and criminal law, and the Indiana Supreme Court has called on her to hear attorney discipline matters.

Monroe County needs a judge with knowledge and experience — not a politician.

--Nicole Jacquard

Who is elected as the next judge of Monroe County Circuit Seat 2 matters to all of us. That person will likely be assigned civil, not criminal cases, at least for the first part of the term. So, it is important that our next judge has experience in all areas of the law. Christine Tally Haseman has that experience.

I have known Talley Haseman professionally in my role as an attorney and her role as an attorney, mediator, guardian ad litem, volunteer attorney for the CASA program and as a judge in Monroe Circuit Court in 2008. She fulfilled her duties in each of these roles competently, ethically, morally and civilly.

As a judge, Talley Haseman was fair and impartial. She maintained control of her courtroom with dignity and civility, but she could be stern and “judicial” if necessary. Talley Haseman displayed knowledge of the law and the rules of procedure and evidence.

Talley Haseman also has been a deputy prosecuting attorney and has served as a judicial hearing officer for the Indiana Supreme Court.

This is the experience Monroe County needs on the bench.

--Kendra Gowdy Gjerdingen

I have been an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault for more than 20 years. This advocacy has included working directly with survivors to support them immediately after their violent attacks and years later when they are still suffering from and processing the psychological trauma.

In addition to this direct support, I have also advocated for policy and protocol changes in the judicial system in my role on the Bloomington Commission of the Status of Women, on which I served for 11 years. My experience is why I felt compelled to actively support Christine Talley Haseman for judge in Monroe Circuit Court, Seat 2.

Christine Talley Haseman has both the empathy and experience to respond to violence against women. As a former juvenile court referee presiding over Children in Need of Services and Protective Order cases and as a court-appointed guardian ad litem for children in high conflict divorce, paternity and guardianship cases, she has demonstrated her compassion and empathy — essential qualities for a judge. Christine has the judicial temperament and experience to stand up for women and children. I unequivocally support Christine Talley Haseman for judge.
