Notes from the Chair

Hello Democratic friend:

The weather outside is frightful, but not as frightful as the pending and discriminatory marriage-defining amendment being considered in the Indiana House of Representatives this week.  As I write, a majority of the Monroe County house delegation (Representatives: Peggy Mayfied, Bob Heaton, Matt Ubelhor, Eric Koch) appear ready to support HJR-3 in an effort to place this harmful language in the Indiana Constitution.

Please call 1-800-382-9842 and ask your representative to break ranks with their party and vote no.  Special thanks to our own Representative Matt Pierce and State Senator Mark Stoops for their strong work against this harmful step backwards for everyday Hoosiers.

If you are angry and fed up, like me, then you want to take action and get involved.  You are not alone.  Please join our party tomorrow (Monday, January 27th at 5:30 p.m.) at City Hall for a precinct recruitment and informational meeting.  We will be talking about this crucial position that serves as the gateway for maintaining good, local representation in Democratic government and also in turning around red Indiana legislative seats.  Come make a difference with us!

Finally, candidate filing is well underway but there is still room for you.  We still have many great township, precinct committee chair, and state convention delegate positions available for filing.  Filing closes in the county clerk's office at noon, Friday, February 7th.  Is this your time?  It just might be...  You know, I ran for chair of our great party because I got tired of waiting on the next person to step up and fill the gap.  Does this sound like you?

Please take strong Democratic action, today for a better Indiana and Monroe County, tomorrow.  History will judge Indiana's next few days very closely and I look forward to telling my daughter where I stood.

Very truly yours,
Trent Deckard
