Michelle Bright has announced seeking re-election as Benton Township Trustee

Michelle Bright has announced that she will seek re-election as Benton Township Trustee. Bright was voted into office in a Democratic caucus in March 2012 to replace the previous trustee, who the state has charged with misappropriating $97,000 in township funds.

Bright says, “Over the last two years, I have worked diligently to restore the professionalism of this office to the high level that our residents deserve.  I have secured the budget so that essential services such as fire protection and township assistance are fully funded. I have worked closely with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure my office is adhering to best business practices, accounting standards, and reporting requirements. During my first year, the books were balanced and funds were in the positive for the first time since 2008. I have reviewed and updated our township policies and guidelines to reflect current standards in contracts and personnel policies, including strict anti-nepotism policies.”

“One of my biggest challenges but also rewards in being a trustee has been to assist residents who are struggling in one way or another. Not only do I evaluate them for eligibility for assistance that the township can provide but I’m also able to connect them to other resources within our community to help fulfill their physical, mental, and social needs in a more long-term manner. “

“In the coming term, I would like to continue to implement ways to help our residents in both traditional and non-traditional ways while also being a good steward of taxpayer monies. I look forward in serving my fellow township residents and continuing to restore the public’s trust in this office.”

Michelle earned a Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and Human Development and currently works as an Accounting Associate for Indiana University. She is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Science part time. She has lived in Benton Township for 17 years and has enjoying volunteering for many community organizations including PTO, Boy and Girl scouting, club and school swim teams, and band boosters.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and enjoying her kids’ busy teen years.

Michelle is a BRIGHT, articulate, energetic, caring woman. Although she inherited a horrible mess created by her predecessor, Michelle has worked diligently to restore fiscal integrity to Benson Township. We should reward Michelle’s success by re-electing her to this vital position. It would be wonderful to see what Michelle can accomplish now that the mess is cleaned up!!!

Excellent! All of the above is absolutely true. Michelle has done a phenomenal job of putting our township back into proper order, and I would expect nothing less of her going forward.
