The Democratic Foundation

For the Monroe County Democratic Party to by successful in recruiting candidates, organizing campaigns and winning elections, continuing financial support is needed. Our Headquarters is an especially important factor in our success on each Election Day. Office space, computers, internet access, telephones, copier paper and toner -- while not glamorous -- are important for the Democratic Party to remain strong. For this reason we are pleased to announce the formation of the Democratic Foundation, an honor roll of recurring monthly contributors to the Monroe County Democratic Party. We welcome you to join and we thank those who already have. And, of course, there is no obligation to donate monthly. All donations to the Party are greatly appreciated.

FAQ's

Q: What is the Democratic Foundation?
A: The Democratic Foundation consists of MCDP donors who pledge continuing monthly support for MCDP operations.

Q: What do the monthly contributions pay for?
A: Foundation funds cover the maintenance of our Headquarters including such basic needs as rent, phone/internet service, utilities, office supplies, etc. Foundation contributions are used for opperational expenses, not campaign expenses.

Q: How do I contribute?
A: Since 2005 the MCDP has accepted online donations on its website. We use ActBlue, a "Democratic PayPal" created in 2004 to help Democrats raise money online. Democratic Foundation members can sign up for monthly recurring donations through the "make a donation" link on the party website. It's quick, it's easy and it's SECURE. If you want to join the Foundation, make sure your contribution is set to occur on a monthly basis.

Q: Is there a minimum donation?
A: Democratic Foundation members are encouraged to join at the $20 dollar level for 1 year. Donations can be less or more than $20. Democratic Foundation members decide the level of support they wish to contribute.

Q: What happens if I change my mind or cannot continue as a Democratic Foundation member?
A: Recurring donations can be cancelled at any time by following the instructions on the ActBlue website.

Q: What if the Democratic Foundation contributes more than is needed to cover HQ expenses?
A: The flow chart on the right shows how Foundation funds will be used. First, Foundation contributions go to pay current rent and office expenses. Any funds left over will top-off our checking account with a two-month operational buffer. Anything above and beyond those expenses will be placed in an MCDP Capital Development Fund which will be dedicated to the eventual acqisition of a permanent MCDP Headquarters.

Democratic Foundation members will be recognized on the party website at http://www.monroedems.org/foundation.php and the Foundation board at HQ unless they wish to remain anonymous.
