Dates and Deadlines

You may vote in the General Election even though you may not have voted in the Primary Election.

  • Tues, May 18, 2010 - Voter Registration for the November Election begins
  • Wed, Aug 4, 2010 - Clerk may begin receiving Absentee Ballot applications (for voting by mail or by travel board)
  • Fri, Aug 20, 2010 at 12 NOON - Deadline to file petition to run for school board office
  • Mon, Oct 4, 2010 - Voter Registration ends & Absentee Voting in person begins
  • Mon, Oct 25, 2010 - Deadline for Clerk to receive Absentee Ballot applications for voting by mail
  • Mon, Nov 1, at 12 NOON - Absentee Voting in person ends;  deadline for Clerk to receive Absentee Ballot applications for voting by travel board
  • November 2, 2010, 6 am--6 pm - General Election; Absentee Ballots mailed to Clerk from a US address must be RECEIVED by Clerk no later than 12 noon

As of July 1, 2010, you can also register online at www.indianavoters.com

Voter Registration for election ends Mon, Oct. 4th, 2010.

Use www.indianavoters.com or call Voter Registration at 812-349-2690 to look up your information.  You can:

  • Verify that you are a registered voter in Monroe County;
  • Verify in which precinct you are registered;
  • Obtain the address and a map for your precinct's polling place;
  • View your precinct's sample ballots, a few weeks prior to an election. 

Voting Options:

1.  ELECTION DAY VOTING: You can vote at your assigned polling location from 6 am to 6 pm, Tues, Nov 2nd, Election Day.  Bring your Photo ID: Indiana Driver's License or ID, U.S. Passport or Military ID, IU or Ivy Tech ID.

2.  EARLY VOTING (ABSENTEE VOTING IN PERSON): You can vote in person (Absentee Voting) at the Curry Building, 714 W 7th, Bloomington. Bring your Photo ID:  Indiana Driver's License or ID, U.S. Passport or Military ID, IU or Ivy Tech ID.  Hours for in-person Absentee Voting are:

Mon - Fri, Oct 4th - Oct 29th, 8:30 am - 4 pm   (Closed Mon, Oct 11th - Columbus Day)

Sat, Oct 23 & Oct 30, 8:30 am - 4 pm

Mon, Nov 1, 8:30 am - 12 noon

3.  ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL:  To vote by mail, you must submit an application (ABS-1 or ABS-2), which can be downloaded here or you can request an application from from the Clerk's Office by calling 812-349-2600 or mailing/visiting 301 N College, Rm 201, Bloomington, IN 47404.  To submit your application, you can:

1) Fax to 812-349-2610.

2) Mail to Monroe County Clerk, 301 N College, Rm 201, Bloomington, IN 47404.

3) Deliver in person to the Clerk's Office.  If you are delivering an application for someone else you will be required to fill out an ABS-17.

The final day for the Election Office to receive a request for a Mailed Absentee Ballot is Monday, Oct 25, 2010.

4.  ABSENTEE VOTING BY TRAVEL BOARD  :  If you are confined due to illness, a travel board will come to you.  The final day for the Clerk's Office to receive an application for a confined voter is Monday, Nov 1, 2010 at noon.  Confined voters are those who are either confined to their home, hospital, or nursing facility.
