Dispatch 6/17/18--Father's Day Call to Action

To everyone, we wish you a happy Father's Day! As you celebrate family, we are also asking you to do one more thingcall your representatives. You have heard of the amoral and atrocious practice at our borders of splitting children from their families, which is being done in our name. As Senator Donnelly has already stated, this is against our values as a country. There is also no basis for this practice in the law. Already, there is legislation in the Senate to Keep Families Together, but it needs support.

We want you to join others across the country, including late night talk show hosts, in letting our representatives know that we cannot allow this inhumane treatment to continue. You can find a list of talking points and a sample letter here to get you started. And there is no better time than today, Father's Day:

We are just a couple of weeks away from Bloomington's Fourth of July Parade. MCDP plans on having a strong presence at the parade. In the meantime, we are looking for anyone that could help us borrow golf carts for the parade. If you have access to a golf cart, plea contact Executive Director Kaisa Goodman: Kaisa.goodman@monroedems.org. Here are the details for the parade:

Evening of July 3rd: Decorate our float

9 a.m. Bloomington Community Band plays on the Monroe County Courthouse lawn

10 a.m. Fourth of July Parade begins

11:15 a.m. Parade Awards announced at the reviewing stand, downtown on Kirkwood Avenue

Parade Route:

The parade begins at the corner of Seventh Street and Indiana Avenue, marches west to Walnut Street, north to Eighth Street, west to College Avenue, south to Kirkwood Avenue, east on Kirkwood Avenue, and ends at Indiana Avenue.

The Monroe County Democrats Club will meet on Tuesday, June 19th at 11:30 am at DeAngelo's Restaurant in Eastland Plaza. The Club will hear from Matt Pierce about the recent session of the Indiana State Assembly--and about his run for keeping his seat in the Indiana House of Representatives. The public is invited to attend.

On the eve of their second annual Juneteenth Fundraiser, the Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus will hold their monthly meeting at MCDP Headquarters. All are welcome.
