Dear Democrat Friends,
I hope you had a chance to read Rick Dietz's message about the tragic vacancy left by Sophia Travis' passing, and the plan to fill the upcoming ballot vacancy.
I have agreed to be appointed by our Chair to fill the County Council ballot position, if Rick is given this authority by the Central Committee, to honor Sophia. No one wants to run in such circumstances, but there is an important "job" on the County Council that Democrats in our community cannot ignore.
While I can fill a hole in our upcoming ballot, only time will fill the giant hole in our hearts, and we can actually only honor Sophia by winning another Democrat majority on the County Council.
But winning in November and keeping Democrats in the County Council's majority means a lot of work, in just a short time. And doing this while we are grieving.
I apologize for not writing to you individually, but time is too short. I'm asking if you would be willing to lend your time to help my campaign in some way. By Friday when Rick could make his appointment, there will be only 37 days until the election.
For our organization: Regina Moore will Chair my campaign committee. Dorothy Granger will be Treasurer.
Some friends of Sophia's have already signed on and offered to work.
But we need experienced folks like you, and Rick has asked us to get going and move NOW.
Can you please work with us?
The first/maybe only of the promised very few campaign meetings is Wed, Sep 26, 5:30 PM, at Democrat HQ. Regina will chair. Time is incredibly short and we will be efficient at the meeting. She will outline the key needs, we will come up with a plan, and then future meetings will probably be via email and phone.
We are all incredibly sad, and this campaign will be difficult in its fast work and emotion, but I am doing this because it is the right thing to do for our community, our party, and for Sophia too.
Can you please help?
