Local Officials to Take Oath of Office at New Year’s Day Ceremony

Bi-partisan event recognizes officials from Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Stinesville

 

Bloomington – On New Year’s Day, residents of Monroe County will gather at the Bloomington Council Chambers to celebrate another peaceful transition of leadership and swear in newly elected officials of Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Stinesville.  The event, organized by the Monroe County Democratic Party in cooperation with the Monroe County Republican Party, will include remarks from the incoming Mayor of Bloomington, John Hamilton.

“It is a blessing that we are able start the new year in solemn recognition of public service and civic virtue”, said Mark Fraley, Chairman of the Monroe County Democratic Party.  “I have high expectations for our elected officials and the community they serve”.

William Ellis, Chairman of the Monroe County Republican Party said, “this is the time when the campaigns are firmly behind us and we unite, for the betterment of Bloomington, Ellettsville and Stinesville. I am proud to be in a county with such quality individuals dedicated to public service.”

Officials sworn in on January 1st will include John Hamilton as Mayor of Bloomington and Nicole Bolden as the City’s Clerk; Bloomington Common Council members  Allison Chopra, Dorothy Granger, Tim Mayer, Isabel Piedmont-Smith, David Rollo, Andy Ruff, Susan Sandberg, Chris Sturbaum, and Steve Volan;  Ellettsville Clerk-Treasurer Sandra Hash will take the oath of office along with town council members, Brian Mobley, F. Scott Thomas, and Scott Oldham; and  Stinesville Clerk-Treasurer Lois Pursell will be sworn in along with Stinesville town council members Kimberly Cunningham, Tayler McGlocklin, and Luther Miller. A public reception will take place immediately following the event.  All area residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
